Netflix Shows for the Stressed-Out Student

Need a break from all that studying? Want to chill before your next lecture? Here are some Netflix show recommendations you might want to consider! These recommendations are broken down into either short breaks (20 minutes) or long breaks (30-40minutes) because we still need to get back to our assignments, don’t we? Without further ado, let’s begin.

Short Breaks – 20 Minutes (Recommended)

1. Modern Family

A show about three families and their antics from every perspective as they all grow up together. With its diverse characters and relatable scenarios, it gives us a good laugh and even some valuable life lessons. It sometimes hurts to see yourself in these relatable characters but this only allows for acceptance and growth!

Rating: 4.5/5

2. Community

This show may be an older comedy, but it definitely still checks out. In this sitcom, we get a glimpse of an oddly-formed study group who never seemed to study (sound familiar?) and instead went on wacky adventures in Greendale Community College. It did, however, get slightly boring around the fifth season but it’s nonetheless worth the watch!

Rating: 4/5

3. The Good Place

This would be a good show to watch if you like to pretend you’re an intellectual. It emphasises quite a little bit on morals and ethics but it does it in an easy, digestible manner! A very interesting show with amazing writing. I already feel smarter just by watching it so...what are you waiting for?

Rating: 4/5

4. Derry Girls

Set in the backdrop of The Troubles in Ireland, we follow Erin and her group of friends in an all-girls Catholic school with the weirdest antics and situations, especially with the newest unwanted addition of an English boy in their clique. Super easy and extremely pleasant to watch. The only downside is that it ends too quickly!!

Rating: 4.5/5

5. Haikyu!!

An anime about Japanese high schoolers, volleyball and the antics of being in a team! Even if we’re not able to play some sports sometimes, maybe watching it could get us moving slightly #keepfititssunnah! A beautiful series but marks are docked due to some objectification of women.

Rating: 4.5/5

Long Breaks (because you need it) – 30-40 Minutes

1. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Having been locked in a bunker for most of her teen years, Kimmy Schmidt finally gets to experience life but inadvertently faces challenges as a result of her child-like point-of-view. Full disclaimer though, this show may not be for everyone. I myself took some time to actually enjoy the show but it grows on you over time since it’s an easy watch.

Rating: 3.75/5

2. The Sound of Your Heart

This is a show I would highly recommend everyone to watch if they just want to have a good laugh. A favourite face from Running Man, Lee Kwang Soo shows his acting chops here in The Sound of Your Heart...or is it just him in real life? The show also features some Running Man cameos which you definitely not want to miss. Honestly, you should just watch the show. You’ll either like it or love it!

Rating: 4.75/5

3. Good Girls

Finally, we have some drama. Featuring three childhood friends, they are now wives and mothers who are in desperate need of money and decide to rob a supermarket as a one-time solution. However, the world of crime can be quite enticing…. This show clearly brings you on a rollercoaster ride although some scenes can be rather predictable.
