Bloom

Upon tuning into our hearts, we open our minds to the dawn of new horizons. Every one of us blooms in our own time & at our own pace, ultimately arriving where we are meant to be by Allah’s will. We reflect, aspire, & embrace new beginnings in order to flourish. No matter how vast or minimal the change we wish to enact within ourselves, as we seize each opportunity to bloom, let us continue growing as individuals through His nurture & guidance.

New Beginnings

“Bismillah hirrahman nirrahim”

With bismillah, we take that first step towards our endeavours. The actions we set out to do on the daily rarely start without it. Although the habit of saying bismillah started so long ago for so many of us, it’s value never faded away, but instead it grew along with us. It has become an essential part of our lives.

We often find ourselves turning to Him when we enter new phases of life because we want the reassurance that He will guide us through these new experiences. We have faith in Allah s.w.t. because we know that he will be there with us every step of the way.

Therefore, let us look at bismillah in a new light. Instead of perceiving it as a habit or obligation, let’s perceive it as a way for us to take on brand new opportunities when new chapters begin in our lives. As we begin our journeys of growth, let’s do it with bismillah.

Reflecting

Our daily lives are filled with infinite distractions. Our mind, heart, and body need regular detoxification. We can look at the life of our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for inspiration. He went to cave of Hira to reflect on his thoughts and feelings, before receiving the first revelations. His life also showcases the development of the ability to acknowledge our emotions, no matter how uncomfortable. Similarly, in our lives, we might have been put in uncomfortable situations, whether by choice or not. Nonetheless, we must acknowledge these feelings as self-reflection is not just helping yourself, it is self-love, and knowledge of your strengths and weaknesses. This is important as the more we realise what we know, the more we realise what we do not know.

Allah s.w.t. mentioned in Surah Ar-Rad verse 11, “Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.” In that vein, while it is important to acknowledge that everyone has changed over time, we have to consider changes in ourselves. Maybe it is prime time that we reflect on our self and realise how much we have changed and also how much we need to change to aspire and grow further.

Aspiring

Through all the looking within, time will come for us to spread love and mercy outwardly. To embody change not just for us but even the slightest shift in society. We will never know when we will be ready to make our mark, but what a waste would it be, having been through all the introspection, for us to not let ourselves impact those around us?

Anas ibn Malik reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "If the Final Hour comes while you have a shoot of a plant in your hands and it is possible to plant it before the Hour comes, you should plant it."

We want to bloom, bear fruit and in due time we aim to sow the seeds for continual benefit. No matter how small or futile it might seem, the Prophet s.a.w has encouraged us to take the step forward and plant the seed to continue the cycle. What do we want to bring to this world? When will we take the first step?
